Biden's Student Loan Bailout

117th Congress, 2nd Session | August 31st, 2022

Last week, President Biden took a break from his weeks-long beach vacation to travel back to Washington, where he announced the White House’s latest policy failure: “canceling” student loan debt. In short, the President’s preposterous plan “forgives” up to $20,000 in student loan debt for individual borrowers earning less than $125,000. In reality, Joe Biden isn’t “canceling” or “forgiving” student loan debt. He’s simply transferring each borrowers’ burden to working and middle-class Americans who have zero responsibility for these loans.

The cost of this illogical proposal? At least $300 billion – with some estimates over $500 billion.

So the Biden Administration is unlawfully forcing Americans who didn’t attend college, didn’t take out loans, or already paid off their loans to foot the $300+ billion bill of other people’s outstanding debt. Why should a poultry farmer in Gainesville pay for a Gender Studies degree from Berkeley? How is it fair to force a law enforcement officer in Dahlonega to take on the debt of a lawyer from Harvard? In what world is it acceptable to require an elementary school teacher in Ellijay to pay off the student loan debt of an unemployed graduate in Portland? President Biden’s student loan bailout is nothing more than highway robbery justified by executive action.

Yet Biden’s student loan scheme isn’t just morally bankrupt, it’s also fiscally reckless. As Americans continue to battle an economic recession and 40-year high inflation, the White House’s severely misguided plan will only exacerbate financial woes and crippling price hikes. In fact, a recent poll revealed nearly 60% of Americans are concerned that “canceling” student loan debt will make inflation worse. But in true Biden fashion, the President is steamrolling ahead with his horrendous plan anyway – paying no mind to the economic pain he continuously inflicts on the American people.

Ultimately, the Biden Administration’s student loan debt debacle is an attempt to buy votes ahead of the midterm elections. Americans know good and well that this election gimmick is wrong, unconstitutional, and economically disastrous – and conservatives in Congress do too. Rest assured, I’m actively working on legislation to block Biden’s plan, and I’m diligently collaborating with my Republican colleagues to hold the Biden Administration accountable for this illegal student loan handout.

Rep. Clyde Demands Congress Investigate FBI & Facebook's 2020 Censorship Efforts

In a recent interview, the CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, openly admitted that the platform – under the direction of the FBI – limited users’ ability to view the New York Post’s groundbreaking story on Hunter Biden’s laptop. After the FBI urged Facebook to restrict “misinformation” ahead of the 2020 election, the social media giant algorithmically censored the crucial reporting for at least seven days. This is just the latest example of how the left-wing media, Big Tech, and Democrat elites colluded to suppress the truth about Hunter Biden in order to assist Joe Biden’s campaign.

Make no mistake, this news isn’t just insane – it's election interference. Americans deserve honest, fair, and free elections, which is why I’m committed to strengthening election integrity and dedicated to investigating nefarious behavior that impacted the 2020 election. In fact, I have demanded that Mark Zuckerberg must testify – under oath – before Congress to explain Facebook’s censorship and the FBI’s involvement in circumventing the First Amendment. It’s far past time for the American people to receive the answers, accountability, and transparency they deserve.

As a three-tour combat veteran, it’s difficult to look back at the Biden Administration’s countless strategic failures that amounted to one of the greatest military debacles in recent history.
