Google Retaliates Against Employee Who Spoke Up for Palestinian Rights. Tell Them This is Unacceptable!

Dear Email,

A few months ago, we asked you to back the #NoTechForApartheid campaign, supporting Google and Amazon workers who oppose their companies’ complicity in Israeli apartheid through ‘Project Nimbus,’ a massive $1.2 billion contract to enhance the Israeli military’s tools of surveillance and oppression. Yesterday, one of the brave Google employees who stood up for Palestinian rights, Ariel Koren, announced her resignation from Google after facing intense retaliation from the company. This is unacceptable!

More than 700 of Ariel’s fellow employees at Google signed a petition saying the company unjustly retaliated against her for speaking out for Palestinian human rights. Google workers, many of them anonymous to avoid retaliation, also recorded testimonies exposing the culture of silence and intimidation that affects employees who speak out for Palestinian rights, or in some cases for simply being Palestinian.

Every major human rights organization in the world, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, have documented Israel’s ongoing crime of apartheid against Palestinians, as well as the Israeli military’s war crimes against them. It is simply unconscionable for Google to support this oppression through Project Nimbus, of which one Palestinian Google employee said “makes me feel like I am making a living off my family’s oppression.

In a company like Google, which claims to be committed to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, employees who raise concerns about the company’s complicity in serious human rights violations should be thanked and listened to, not intimidated or punished. Tell Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian to STOP DOING BUSINESS WITH APARTHEID ISRAEL.

You can also support Google employees who stand up for Palestinian human rights on their upcoming day of action. On September 8, tech workers in San Francisco, Seattle, and New York will turn up the pressure on their companies to end their contracts with Israel. Rally with them or support from home.

In solidarity,
