Washington, DC - Today, Congressman Van Drew issued a statement criticizing California for announcing the ban of gas-powered cars by 2035, and then days later telling people to "avoid charging electric vehicles" due to strains on their energy grid.
"If California cannot handle increased energy demands amid a heat wave, how does the state expect to handle every single Californian to own an electric vehicle," asked Congressman Van Drew. "The average American cannot afford an electric vehicle in the first place, and most are still struggling to buy basic necessities due to inflation created by President Biden.
"California is forcing its citizens to purchase electric vehicles, but then tells people to avoid charging these electric vehicles because the state cannot handle it. Democrats continue to try to control every aspect of Americans' lives. Under the guise of saving the world from climate change, Democrats are ignoring the potential consequences that these mandates will have on the people of California. The reality is that we cannot handle a market that is 100% electric vehicles, and California is the prime example."
