JOHN, Carl Sanford here – Max’s campaign manager.
Our team took a risk by not running any paid advertising in the lead-up to the Primary. We knew that we needed to conserve our resources for the general election and I'm proud that we still achieved such a strong victory on Primary Night.
But to compete in the General, we need to take things to the next level. That means it’s time to get Max’s message on television... ASAP!
Our team has always felt that you should know where your money is going and how it will be spent, so I thought I’d share some of the ins and outs of how those pesky (but very important!) ads get on your television.
Before I do, I need to ask – we’re about to buy our first TV spots and could use your help right now. Can you chip in to help Max reach his end-of-month goal?

When you’re running an ad, the first thing you need to consider is your audience. This will determine not only the production of the ad – specifically, the policy points that we address – but it’ll also tell us what networks we’ll likely run it on.
We’ve spent months honing Max’s message and preparing countless ad pitches. But now it’s time to take a hard look at what it’s going to cost and adjust our plan. This part can really be the kicker.
Airtime is calculated by the number of ‘points’ you purchase, and every point’s cost depends on the media market that you run it in. We’re in the New York City media market, the most expensive market in the country.
This is all to say that getting Max’s message out there and running the TV ads we need takes a lot of planning, creativity, and money. Max’s opponent went up on TV early and Republican Super PACs are gearing up to make big ad buys against Max, so we can’t afford to fall behind.
In a few days, I’ll have to make a decision on how many ads we can run and who will get to hear Max’s message. And if we don’t hit our end-of-month goal tonight, that decision is going to be a tough one. So, can I count on you to chip in tonight?
