John --
A call comes in from a number with a familiar area code. We answer thinking it’s the doctor’s office, the dog groomer, or our kids’ school. But to our dismay, the voice on the other side is unfamiliar and telling us outlandish things, like the IRS is at our door or our student loan payments are overdue.
Robocalls are quickly transforming into an epidemic. While we were all busy trying to get important work done, be with our families, and live our lives last year, we were collectively interrupted over 40 billion times by a scam caller.
It's time to give these annoying and illegal scam callers the full force of the law. Join Suzan in calling on the Senate to bring the Stopping Bad Robocalls Act to a vote.
Last year, robocallers scammed U.S. consumers out of $429 million. And because they can avoid the federal Do Not Call Registry, scammers can attempt to scam someone a limitless amount of times over the phone with zero repercussions.
With bipartisan support, the bill Suzan co-sponsored passed the House as a way to strengthen protections for consumers who receive these scam calls and demand phone carriers like AT&T and Verizon start deploying call authentication protocols. These protocols will make it easier to not only catch these scammers, but hold them accountable.
As our technology advances, so should privacy protections for citizens. Add your name today to demand the Senate holds a vote on this crucial legislation.
Thank you for standing with Suzan,
