The Trudeau government is hiding documents about its tanker ban legislation and you can drag the truth into the light.

------------------------------------------------------------

Dear John
The Trudeau government is hiding documents about its tanker ban legislation and you can drag the truth into the light.

Here’s what’s happening:

The Trudeau government passed legislation to ban oil tankers on the West Coast. That makes it harder for Western Canadian oil to get to market. Meanwhile, oil tankers routinely sail into harbours on the East Coast.

But this issue goes much deeper than this legislation.

This is about accountability.

Back in 2018, a researcher named Michael Oberman filed access to information requests to get the federal government’s economic analysis of the tanker ban legislation. Regardless of what these documents say, every Canadian has a right to see the analysis to hold politicians accountable. Yet, the Trudeau government refused to release the documents.

After a year of government stalling, Michael submitted an official complaint to the Office of the Information Commissioner. And he won. This summer, the commissioner told the federal government to turn over the documents.

Let’s be clear about what that means: The independent Information Commissioner told the Trudeau government that it’s breaking the law by failing to release these documents.

BUT THE TRUDEAU GOVERNMENT IS STILL REFUSING TO RELEASE THESE DOCUMENTS.

Most Canadians don’t have a lawyer on speed-dial, nor the ability to raise tens of thousands of dollars to take the Trudeau government to court.

But we do.

When we heard this story, we called our lawyers who have successfully argued cases for us in front of the B.C., Alberta and Ontario Court of Appeals as well as the Supreme Court of Canada.

It’s time to go to court to force the Trudeau government to follow the law and release these documents.

Your Canadian Taxpayers Federation lawyers are confident in our case and they’re giving us a great deal, but legal fights are never cheap, especially when you’re up against the Trudeau government’s lawyers. So, we’ve budgeted $50,000 for this court fight.

Will you stand up for accountability and join the court fight to force the Trudeau government to release these documents? We’re counting on 5,000 of our supporters to donate $10 each. Please donate now by clicking this LINK: [link removed] ([link removed])

Thanks for fighting for taxpayers – it’s making a difference!

Sincerely,

* Franco, Shannon, Todd and the rest of the CTF team.

P.S.: The Trudeau government is strangling Canadian resources. You can fight back by funding the court case to force the government to release its economic analysis of the tanker ban. You can donate through this secure online link: [link removed] ([link removed])
