Friend, It’s been over a month since flash floods tore through eastern Kentucky. But to families who lost everything, it feels like only yesterday. I’ve lived here my entire life, Friend – and I’ve seen the destruction firsthand. Schools engulfed, roads washed away and homes destroyed. Hundreds of lives turned upside down in an instant. Many of us are still without power or water. Some are even living in tents while they search for a new place to live. But in the midst of all this devastation, I witnessed something beautiful, too: people coming together to support communities like mine in a time of great need. Our sister organization, Save the Children, has worked in rural Kentucky for decades. Their teams have been providing comfort and care to children and families since the very first days of this disaster – and as summer winds down, they’re working tirelessly to ensure schools and child care centers get up and running. Friend, champions for children like you helped make this change possible. Donations to Save the Children’s Eastern Kentucky Flood Crisis Fund have gone directly toward funding emergency relief efforts and helping families rebuild. Thanks to this community’s generosity, people who’ve lost nearly everything can turn to Save the Children for essentials like hot meals, bottled water, hygiene kits, diapers and cribs – plus games and toys that give kids a chance to be kids again. I can’t thank you enough for your compassion. Advocates like you are truly making a difference for children in eastern Kentucky – I’ve seen your impact with my own eyes. |
