Public schools are banning books at a record pace, threatening intellectual freedom. Big money is funding right-wing extremists at the local school board level to push their authoritarian agenda.
Friend, this isn't a drill. Literal book burnings are being held in the year 2022.
We're raising $10,000 for School Board candidates who support to ensure freedom of expression. It is the bedrock of public schools in an open, inclusive, and democratic society.
Book bans prevent people from seeing the range of identities that exist in their culture, allowing privileged people to create a skewed view of how others are.
Personal discomfort and fears that drive some parents to challenge books equate to the erasure of entire groups of people and their stories. More than half of books that have been banned have diverse content.
Too often banned books are the exact books that young people need to read, as they are effective in helping children develop their own values and moral convictions.
Education’s purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one.
