Look, I know you’re not donating just so my fundraising team can say they
hit their goal.

Today is August 31, and if you’re one of the millions of Americans who
receives a whole bunch of these email solicitations, you probably have
quite a few candidates asking you to give $5 today to help them hit their
end of month goal.

So I’m going to cut through the BS and tell you why I actually have to
keep asking you for donations.

 1. My Orange County district is a part of the very large and very
expensive LA media market. This is the second most expensive media
market in the country, and demand for political airtime is high right
now—there’s an expensive LA mayoral race and several other competitive
House districts here in Orange County. This is driving up prices and
means we have to raise more than candidates in most other parts of the
country.
 2. This swing district has an equal number of Democrats and Republicans.
We can only win in this purple district if we turnout Democrats and
persuade swing voters.
 3. I don’t take corporate PAC or lobbyist money. Just a dozen other
Members of Congress have taken this pledge, and it’s why I rely on the
support of grassroots donors like you. Our average donation is around
$25.

All this being said, my fundraising team and I set goals (we’re trying to
raise $8,000 through this email) to help us stay on track as we place ads
and budget for the final months of the race. In such a competitive and
expensive race, hitting these goals is key. [ [link removed] ]So you know I’m going to

our race?
