Hi John,
Global Justice Now will be part of The World Transformed (TWT) again this year, a festival that builds a collaborative, creative and open approach to political education and organising on the left.

We are very excited to say that we will be running two events at TWT, which is taking place in Liverpool, 24-27 September. Our fantastic speakers will include journalist Owen Jones and a doctor who has worked in Cuba’s socialised health system.

We’d love for you to join us too, even if you can’t make it in person – there will be a host of online and hybrid sessions at TWT.

** Who owes who? Corporate polluters and the climate crisis @ The World Transformed
------------------------------------------------------------
* When: Monday 26 September, 5.30pm
* Where: Black-E Studio, Liverpool (see on map ([link removed]) )

The climate crisis was caused by the countries and corporations of the global north, and is rooted in the historical and ongoing exploitation of colonialism, empire and neoliberalism. The North owes the South in reparation. But somehow, it is the fossil fuel corporations who are getting payouts, via secret tribunals written into trade deals - which themselves have their origins in colonialism. Join us to discuss who actually owes whom, and how we can change this broken system.

** Medicines for the many: why we need a new pharma system @ The World Transformed
------------------------------------------------------------
* When: Sunday 25 September, 1pm
* Where: School Cinema, Liverpool

Private capture of medicines is making us sick. The companies set up to keep us alive look increasingly like hedge funds, profiteering from medicines, even when the most important breakthroughs come from public research. From HIV to Covid-19 and monkeypox, big pharma fails people in the global south, while piling pressure on the NHS and health systems worldwide. But resistance is growing globally, with alternative, collectivist pharmaceutical models emerging from Cuba to South Africa. This panel will ask how we replace a system that privatises public science and puts profits before health.

While we’re in Liverpool, we’ll also be organising a fringe event at Labour party conference, which is open to the public:

**
How do we prepare the NHS and global health systems for future health crises? @ Labour Fringe
------------------------------------------------------------
* When: Tuesday 27 September, 1pm
* Where: Malmaison Hotel, Liverpool (see on map ([link removed]) )

Then on Tuesday 27 September, we will be discussing how Labour can push for a better global health system at the Labour Conference fringe event we are co-organising with our friends from StopAIDS, Just Treatment and Oxfam. You don’t have to be a Conference delegate or even a Labour member to attend. We’ll hear from Baroness Shami Chakrabarti, Shadow Secretary for International Development Preet Gill, Mohga Kammil-Yani from the People’s Vaccine Alliance and more. This is part of our conference season work as we seek to engage the UK’s political parties on the issues that matter. Look out for more to come!

If you’re coming to Liverpool, please do get in touch. We’d love to see you!

Thank you for all your support,

Tim Bierley
