Subject: Fighting for our democracy and our country

Hi there,

I wanted to reach out a few days after our exciting victory on Tuesday.

I am so proud of the movement we built and the message we sent across the country: we will not stand by while our democracy and our freedoms are dismantled.

Years ago, I raised my right hand and swore an oath to defend this country from all enemies, foreign and domestic. I ran for Congress because our democracy is under attack.

Together, we stood up for the values we cherish and the freedoms we care for so deeply. But in November, we face an opponent who is a direct threat to our democracy, our safety, and the community we love.

Colin Schmitt, my Republican opponent, cheered on insurrectionists who went to the U.S. Capitol on January 6 and attacked leaders, law enforcement, and democracy.

He has stood silently by as children and loved ones have been killed at schools, at grocery stores, and at Fourth of July parades.

He failed to keep his hometown safe from toxic chemical contamination.

And he has called for doctors who provide care to victims of rape and incest to be thrown into jail.

We sent a message loud and clear: Our community will not vote for someone who tears us down. But in November, we need to send that message again.
