I don't know about you, but recent events around the country are giving me hope for this fall.

Bucking predictions of a "red wave" in November, Democratic candidates are outperforming expectations everywhere from Nebraska to New York, where Democrat Pat Ryan just won a special election in a congressional race widely expected to favor Republicans.

On a related note, recent polls show that Democrats are now just as interested in voting in November as are Republicans -- which is atypical for the party in power heading into a midterm election.

The Supreme Court's damaging Dobbs decision is a major factor in these shifting winds, helping to close the so-called "enthusiasm gap" as voters in our district and around the country get energized to vote for candidates who will protect reproductive freedom.

I also took note of a recent NBC News poll showing that voters ranked "threats to democracy" as the top issue facing the country. It's a sad reflection of the current state of affairs, but also a signal to those working to undermine our elections and weaken our democracy that the forces of freedom and liberty are prepared to beat them at the ballot box in November.
