Hi John,

We are Owen and Beth – together we run the Education and Deradicalisation Unit at HOPE not hate. Our job is to work with parents, teachers and young people across the country to help them recognise and counter the signs of hate. We also provide direct support to young people who are showing warning signs of radicalisation. It’s exhausting but important work. In the last year, we’ve trained over 30,000 students and 2000 teachers across 166 schools. But, John, we know we’ve barely scratched the surface.

Over the last couple of weeks, violent misogynist Andrew Tate has made headlines. Parents have told stories of their children changing in front of their eyes after watching his videos. Last week, one parent told LBC about how his son has given up all his hobbies and sits alone in his room with his headphones on watching videos.

John, these stories are heartbreaking, but with a new school term about to start we are more determined than ever to support teachers and parents to recognise the signs of hate. Will you chip in to support our vital education work over the next school year?

I'LL CHIP IN

Your donation will go directly towards funding our education and deradicalisation work this year which means:

  • We can bring more educators on to our team to deliver sessions and cover more schools up and down the country.
  • We can roll out a new module teaching students and teachers all about misinformation and conspiracy theories.
  • We can continue to monitor how young people are radicalised and develop solutions that support parents, teachers and young people.

Our education approach works so well because we've spent years honing our craft. We know that tackling hate isn't about shouting 'nazi' at people, it's about having conversations and building a sense of community and understanding. One teacher said this about our sessions, "The content was very relatable to all students and managed to challenge their more controversial views without antagonising or judging them."

We want to keep up the good work but right now, we are a small staff team of two, and we rely on freelance educators to help us deliver our sessions all over the country. The more money we raise, the more educators we can bring on board, meaning we can visit even more schools next year and work with young people one on one too.

The new school year is about to kick off, and we are more determined than ever to make a difference. But, John,we need your help to do that. Will you donate now?
