John,

On Monday, a judge rejected Georgia Governor Brian Kemp's efforts to hide from his responsibility to share with our legal system what he knows about Donald Trump's attempt to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia.

Kemp has mistakenly been lauded by some nonpartisan observers and Democrats, simply because he didn't overturn the election in Georgia for Trump.

But Kemp's taken the same coward's route as Mike Pence, fighting to avoid testifying, which almost certainly would help put Trump away. It's a reminder that in the end, the only fealty Republicans like Kemp have is to power and party, and Kemp cares only about keeping his GOP base happy, not our democracy.

This shouldn't surprise anyone who followed how he beat Stacey Abrams in 2018, using his position as Secretary of State in Georgia to suppress scores of Democratic votes, particularly among voters of color. He lacked the integrity and decency to recuse himself from refereeing his own election, because, again, what matters to Kemp is not the will or welfare of the people of Georgia, but his lust for power.

Meanwhile, you know all about Stacey Abrams. Her tireless work to register voters delivered us two Senate seats in 2020 that have changed the world--from Biden's incredible job-creating legislation to cheaper prescription drugs, taxing large corporations and providing the child tax credit among many other necessary changes for Americans.

Abrams has made clear she'll fight for abortion rights and gun safety legislation, no matter how the right-wing Supreme Court tries to steal those rights from us. She is a hero, we need Stacey Abrams as Georgia Governor to help turn that state around, as well as provide another charismatic voice for change on the national stage.
