Fear Not

What to Know: If the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals strikes down the Affordable Care Act (in a case argued by TPPF attorneys), no one would immediately lose their insurance, experts say. Obamacare will remain in effect through the appeals process.

The TPPF Take: The truth is that millions have already lost their health care—because the ACA drove up premiums and deductibles so high that many Americans can’t afford to see the doctor.

“This is an opportunity for states to step up and tackle the issue of health care,” says TPPF’s Robert Henneke, who argued the ACA case on behalf of the individual plaintiffs. “The ACA has proven that no one-size-fits-all solution from Washington is going to solve the myriad of problems with the health care system. We need the federal government out of our personal health care choices.”

Failing Already

What to Know: New York’s Medicaid program is running huge deficits, showing that government-run health care plans like Medicare-for-All are inevitably costly boondoggles.

The TPPF Take: More government control means more costs.

“The cost of health care has risen every time government involvement increases and layers of bureaucracy are added,” says TPPF’s David Balat. “Medicare-for-All would mean much more bureaucracy, more costs, and far less care—and, we know now, fewer jobs. Instead of Medicare-for-All, Congress should let states take up health care reform.”

Reforms Working

What to Know: More children are leaving Texas foster care than entering it.

The TPPF Take: This positive trend shows that reforms to the state’s Child Protective Services system are working.

“But still, the state has a long way to go,” says TPPF’s Charissa Huntzinger. “More reforms are needed, and they must protect the constitutional rights of families. Reforms must also ensure that checks and balances remain in the system.”
