August was another busy month, commencing with a big fortnight in Canberra for Parliament.
The opening of the 47th Parliament included typical theatrics from Labor and the Greens, but no actual solutions to the problems our nation is facing. During a Parliamentary debate, I called for more practicality and pragmatism when it comes to energy and climate [[link removed]] - symbolism does nothing!
With interest rates going up [[link removed]], and the cost of living rising [[link removed]], Labor needs to come up with a practical plan.
In my Shadow Ministerial work, I've been across the country speaking with people and organisations [[link removed]] that are committed to ending family violence and keeping our children safe.
In Canberra [[link removed]], Melbourne [[link removed]], Tasmania [[link removed]], and back here on the Gold Coast [[link removed]], I'm working closely with local communities to develop solutions to family violence and child protection.
This new responsibility in my Shadow Portfolio is so vital because there is nothing more important than our children being safe and growing up in a positive, loving environment.
Recently we recognised National Science Week [[link removed]]. As a mechanical engineer and former Science Minister, I've long been an advocate for STEM in schools.
I had the pleasure of being at the local Sista's in STEM Conference, bringing young women from schools across the Gold Coast together and showcasing a shared passion for science!
I also met with the team at Toast VR in Burleigh [[link removed]] for Science Week. They are a fantastic local business providing great entertainment products in the growing digital market.
Finally, the 18th of August was a significant day, as we commemorated our Vietnam Veterans [[link removed]]. We have a large number of RSLs and Veterans across the Gold Coast, and a community with deep gratitude for the service men and women of our country.
We are a patriotic community and have great pride in our country and all it represents.
This Saturday 3rd September is Australian National Flag Day, and the Gold Coast Light Horse Education Museum [[link removed]] at Mudgeeraba are putting on a special day of activities and events.
I encourage you to stop in between 10am-4pm at 8 Worongary Rd, Mudgeeraba. It is a fantastic day to learn more about our great flag and country in an engaging and fun way - especially for the kids!
Like always, my office is always available to help with any federal issues you may be having, so please feel free to get in touch.
