I’m reaching out to you personally today to tell you a little bit about my story.
A single mom raised me in North Charleston, South Carolina. She raised my brother and me all by herself and worked 16 hours a day just to put food on the table for us. She worked as a nurses’ assistant and taught us that there is dignity in all work.

I’m also the grandson of a sharecropper. My grandfather dropped out of school at a young age to work - never learning how to read. My family tells a story of not only resilience and strong faith. My family tells the story of the American Dream.
Where a man who picked cotton got to see his grandson become a United States Senator.
Where a man whose single mom worked tireless hours while still caring for her kids got to see that son become a United States Senator.
And that, folks, is it. That is what I’m fighting for. To make the opportunity that allowed me to go from Cotton to Congress in one lifetime accessible to all Americans.
And let me tell you, it’s not an easy fight. Just as I faced many barriers in my life, many Americans face barriers to achieving the American Dream every day. But I’m here to tell you that although it’s a long road, I’m up for the challenge. I will always go to bat for America.
I’m humbly asking you today to stand with me on this journey. Can you step up for the American Dream today?
