Dear People For
supporter,

Trump and his allies like Sen. Lindsey Graham are whipping up the
far-right MAGA base with lies, conspiracy theories, and threats about
“riots in the street” and other violence should the Department of Justice
prosecute Trump.

From calls to defund the FBI to comparing the DOJ to the Gestapo – and now
these threats of “riots” – we see that the strategy is working with the
base. Trump even received a 10-point boost from GOP primary voters over
his closest potential competitor for the 2024 nomination, Florida Gov. Ron
DeSantis, following the FBI’s search at Mar-a-Lago to collect top-secret
and classified documents Trump was illegally storing there. But, the Far
Right’s extremism is proving a tougher sell with the rest of the
electorate.

Their 2022 election platform is shocking. The three main planks seem to
be:

 1. Take away Americans’ fundamental rights – abortion, marriage equality,
freedom from discrimination, and more...

 2. Destroy Social Security and the social safety net – first, Sen. Rick
Scott of Florida, a member of the GOP Senate leadership, offered up a
plan to “sunset” Social Security and Medicare should Republicans take
control of Congress... now Arizona Senate candidate Blake Masterson
says Social Security should be privatized, and Sen. Ron Johnson of
Wisconsin is saying that Congress should have to vote to renew Social
Security every year, forcing countless seniors to have to beg annually
for their means of living (so much for “security”) ...

 3. End democracy and the rule of law – specifically, make sure that
Donald Trump is above the law and that the will of the people in
elections doesn’t matter anymore (it’s about who “counts” the
votes)....

With an agenda as extreme as this, what could possibly go wrong?

Well, far-right candidates are seeing exactly what could go wrong right
now, as they wake up to the reality that the far-right MAGA base does not
represent America.

The Guardian reports that “Americans are starting to get it,” noting:
“Republicans have put all their chips on extremism. But voters are sending
more and more signals that they’re fed up with it.”

We’re seeing a real path to stopping the extreme MAGA takeover of Congress
and the key state offices, especially governors and secretaries of state,
that control the administration of elections.

Our chances of expanding a pro-democracy Senate majority, stopping
election deniers from winning control of key presidential battleground
states, and keeping Trump loyalists like Kevin McCarthy out of the House
majority are increasing. But, as we enter the fall and the final phase of
the midterms, we have just weeks to reach hundreds of thousands of voters
in these critical races.

Our last funding deadline before Labor Day and the final push of the 2022
cycle is TOMORROW and we have a lot of ground to make up. Energy in our
movement has been growing in recent weeks, but this year got off to a
shaky start. While the reasons for that are understandable, now that
voters are showing that they’re really starting to grasp what’s at stake,
we have major funding gaps to close in order to fully fund our voter
mobilization work.

momentum and STOP the MAGA takeover! >>

Make no mistake: the Far Right is getting nervous. While they circle the
wagons around Trump and twist themselves into knots to excuse his
lawlessness in order to please their base, they also see that their
extremist issue agenda is alienating more and more Americans.

Paul Waldman at the Post writes, "The great Republican abortion backtrack
has begun," with candidates who embraced the most extreme positions on
abortion possible during their primaries now scrubbing their websites of
the issue altogether, abandoning tag lines like “100% pro-life,” and
trying to hide their support for fetal “personhood” legislation.

These signs that the landscape is shifting in our favor are encouraging
but they won’t amount to much unless we do the work, drive home the truth
about the Far Right’s agenda, and reach the voters we need to reach.

Mountains of far-right, corporate cash are still pouring in to support
far-right MAGA candidates. Lies, conspiracy theories, and hate are still
being used by the Far Right to drive massive turnout among their base.

We have our work cut out for us. By choosing to stand with us now, in the
final weeks of this pivotal election, you can make all the difference.
