“Almost half of Latino student loan debt is expected to be forgiven under Biden”
– NBC News

John,

President Biden’s new student loan forgiveness plan is expected to wipe clean nearly half of all Latino student debt! That means a crushing financial weight is about to be lifted off the shoulders of many in our community.

Across America, Latinos will be able to save up for a house, put more money away in savings, or use this extra money for anything they might need.

Latinos were key to electing President Biden in 2020, and this shows us the kind of progress that’s achievable when we make our voices heard. And we’re just getting started. In 2022, Voto Latino is committed to electing more leaders who will fight for our communities, but first we need to register and mobilize Latino voters in key states that will decide the election. Can you chip in right away to our efforts?

For too long, Latinos have been disproportionately burdened by student loan debt.

As NBC News wrote in their article,

“Almost 7 in 10 (67%) Latino student borrowers have educational debt, according to the Education Data Initiative. Thirty-three percent of Latino borrowers said they put off marriage and 37% delayed having children because of their student debt.”

This unprecedented and monumental decision by President Biden will lift much of that burden off our communities, giving us breathing room to make life choices free of the stress caused by student loans. While this does not solve the entire problem of student debt, last week’s announcement is a step in the right direction and we will continue to champion and support efforts to erase this burden.

When we make our voices heard, we can create tangible progress — and the best way to make ourselves heard is to vote in each and every election. From today until Election Day, that’s our focus here at Voto Latino, so please chip in as soon as you can to support our voter registration and mobilization efforts.
