FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Skagit County Public Health partners with Bright by Text to deliver free, timely tips, and local information to parents and caregivers by text message

?

Skagit County Public Health, in partnership with Help Me Grow Skagit [ [link removed] ], is pleased to announce a new service that supports Skagit County parents and other caregivers of young children by providing them with early childhood education, development tools, and community resources by text message. With the help of Bright by Text, caregivers will have valuable resources to confidently navigate their parenting journey and support their young children as they learn and grow.

The service, Bright by Text [ [link removed] ], sends expert-approved, age-based resources by text message to help promote the learning, development, and health of children prenatal through eight years old. It is proven to build school readiness and support nurturing caregiver-child relationships, which are essential for healthy child development. There is no cost to sign up for the messages, which include content developed by Bright by Text and other trusted expert resources like the Institute for Learning and Brain Science at the University of Washington, PBS, Vroom, and Sesame Street. Topics include brain development, games and activities, health and wellness, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), safety, and important local information and announcements.

Bright by Text is free, and subscribers can choose to receive texts in English or Spanish. Parents and other caregivers can now sign up to receive messages by texting SKAGIT to 274448. The service includes two to four weekly text messages containing tips and learning activities specifically targeted to the age of the subscriber's child and local zip codes. Text messages also often link to more online learning materials, including videos accessed by smartphone. The service is always free for subscribers, who can stop the service at any time.

Skagit County Public Health is proud to add another tool to the toolbox of resources available to Skagit families with young children. ?Bright by Text expands on Help Me Grow Skagit which aims to offer families seamless access to community services and support so they can easily connect to what they need, when they need it,? said Jennifer Sass-Walton, Skagit County Public Health Prevention and Community Health Manager. ?We are thrilled to be able to provide our community with the opportunity to access additional quality early learning resources.?
