PAWS Chicago is looking for new volunteers to join us at our Medical Center, the most advanced hospital for homeless pets in the county.
Volunteers are the backbone of PAWS. They make our lifesaving work possible and, yes, the more than 25,000 homeless and at-risk pets we serve each year depend on volunteers every single day.
“It's a way of making a living creature feel better. It’s being around the animals and knowing that you're making a difference in their lives. It’s just a really good feeling,” said PAWS volunteer Maryellen Friendman.
When we caught up with Maryellen, she was doing one of her favorite things—sitting with a sick dog, giving him scratches—and she told us exactly why this work is so important.
“A medical director here once said the biggest part of an animal's recovery is human contact, so just having volunteers here to give them some comfort is really helpful.”

It's a Great Day to Save Lives
The PAWS 5K is the largest dog-friendly charity event in Chicago and our most-attended event of the year. It also recently won Best Charity Walk/Run by Better Chicago for the second year in a row.
Please join for a beautiful walk (or run) along Lake Michigan to benefit homeless pets. Plus, those who raise $250 automatically win a PAWS hat and access to our 5K Hero Hangout, which includes drinks, bites, and even more prizes.
