Exactly how do we plan on defeating Rand Paul? It’s a question we’ve been getting a lot, even before Charles announced his run for the U.S. Senate.
We get it. The last time a Democrat won a U.S. Senate election in Kentucky was in 1999. But it’s becoming increasingly clear that we have a real shot at winning this race.
Similar to the movement we saw in Georgia in 2021, and in Kansas earlier this year, there is significant evidence that huge shifts are happening in our politics and that Kentucky is on track to make history in 2022.
We’ll dive into the details of our plans in just a moment. We hope that after reading you’ll chip in $5 or whatever you can toward our $100,000 August fundraising goal so we can build the ambitious grassroots organizing movement we need to reach out to voters in all 120 counties of Kentucky and end Rand Paul’s disastrous rule in office.
Let’s start by explaining the situation: The truth is there’s a long history of voter suppression in our Commonwealth. As a result, the number of people who don’t vote outnumber those who do. Black and brown communities in particular have long been counted out in our elections. Kentucky is also one of just a few states with a recently elected Democratic governor and two Republican senators. The tides are turning.
Recently, Democrats (like Charles!) have seen success by building campaigns that mobilize the people our politicians have ignored for too long. From the hood to the holler, Charles is building a level of excitement and enthusiasm we haven’t seen in decades. He isn’t afraid to advocate for bold solutions to combat the climate crisis, police violence, and income inequality. He’s a proven leader who knows what challenges Kentuckians are going through because he’s been there himself. That’s exactly the kind of candidate we need to defeat Rand Paul.
So here’s our plan to get Charles’ message out and what we’re doing right now: We plan on running an ambitious field program to register voters, show up for disenfranchised communities, and make sure all of our voices – from the hood to the holler – are heard this election.
