You’ve likely commented before. But right now, your voice has never been more important. If EPA thinks that the world isn't still standing strong with Alaskans and Bristol Bay residents, this zombie mine could keep lurching forward, to the horror of all those whose way of life relies on the health and security of this pristine salmon system.
Here's what's at stake: this summer, 76+ million wild sockeye returned to Bristol Bay, shattering all previous records. This abundance supplies a staggering 50+ percent of the world's sockeye catch, driving a $2.2 billion annual fishery that provides more than 15,000 jobs. These wild runs also support subsistence fishing for 31 federally recognized Alaska Native tribes, sustaining a traditional way of life that has endured for thousands of years.
