About our keynote speakers: Favianna Rodriguez is an interdisciplinary artist, cultural strategist, and social justice activist whose art and praxis address gender justice, queer liberation, climate justice, and racial equity, and lead to resilient and transformative cultural strategies. Favianna is the co-founder and president of The Center for Cultural Power, a national organization igniting change at the intersection of art, culture, and social justice. Joseph Tomás Mckellar serves as Director of PICO California, the largest faith-based organizing network in California working to create systemic change for the most vulnerable. Under Joseph’s leadership, PICO provides strategic leadership to a diverse set of community organizations, and to power building and leadership programs for grassroots volunteers. He also helps lead PICO’s Faith Votes campaign, dedicated to expanding the California electorate to include marginalized voters around a vision for a State of Belonging. Melissa Jones serves as Executive Director of BARHII (Bay Area Regional Health Inequities Initiative), a national engine for health equity that has helped pass groundbreaking legislation – combating statewide rent-gouging rules and expanding paid sick leave, eviction prohibitions, and climate justice programs – that have saved countless lives and improved community health. Over the last five years, Melissa has trained over 1,500 California government officials in Adaptive Leadership for Racial Equity. Nelson Layag (Moderator) possesses 25+ years of work in organizational development, supporting organizations in a wide range of issues that include performance management/staffing, coaching and communications, project management, organizational change, boards of directors, strategy, and leadership development. Before starting his own consulting firm in 2018, he spent 24 years at CompassPoint Nonprofit Services. |
