With Election Day less than 70 days away, we’ve partnered with Civiqs again to poll young battleground state voters across the political spectrum on their feelings about politicians and government institutions, the issues driving them to the polls this midterm election year, and more.
Gen-Z and Millennials will continue to be increasingly influential with each passing election. And political campaigns must have robust plans to address the top issues driving young battleground state voters to the polls this November.
Battleground State Youth Voters on the 2022 Midterm Elections
We polled 2,332 registered voters aged 17-39 in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Here are the major findings from this survey.
When asked what issues are motivating them to vote this November, young voters in battleground states heavily focused on two issues: bringing inflation under control, and protecting abortion access.
We also found that young voters’ policy priorities are what’s driving them to the polls this year. A large majority of Gen-Z and Millennial Democratic voters say that protecting abortion access is the top issue motivating them to participate in the midterm election.
Young People are Motivated to Vote this November
Young people are ready to continue changing the youth vote narrative. The overwhelming majority of young people in these key battleground states say they plan to get involved in the 2022 elections with 86% saying they will turn out to vote.
Political campaigns are contacting young battleground state voters, but there is room to increase outreach to young Black voters and young rural voters
Most young people in battleground states say they’ve been contacted by political campaigns this month by more than one mode of communication, primarily via text and mail.
Youth in rural areas were the most likely to say they haven’t been contacted by political candidates.

Young people are sending a clear message to elected leaders – we need more from you. Since we fielded this poll in early August, the Biden Administration has made historic moves around climate change, reducing inflation and canceling some student loan debt. While this is a good start, youth organizers in the Alliance Network will keep pushing electeds to be bold and meet the demands of young people.
