A Florida law called “Parental Rights in Education” is being used to erase the existence of LGBTQ+ students in books and the classroom.

Legislation in Tennessee and other red states are prohibiting transgender students from participating in sports or using bathrooms that align with their identity. Cries of “religious freedom” and pedophile hysteria are being used to gin up hatred toward an already vulnerable community.

Christian nationalists are infiltrating school boards to promote their bigoted authoritarian agenda. We need to save our public schools by making sure that we elect progressives to our school boards.

School boards are the new culture war battlefront in this country. Sexual orientation and gender identity are being assailed to soothe proponents of “parental rights.”  

Conservative parents fear that educating kids about other gender identities is grooming them for their transition, suggesting that sexual orientation or gender identity is contagious. That kind of ignorance is from the Dark Ages.

Public schools are a place where ALL students need to feel a sense of belonging. It is not a place for bigots and fascists to use religious bigotry and authoritarianism to discriminate against students.
