John — With only 36 hours until our August fundraising deadline, is there anything we can say to convince you to donate to Adam's campaign?
What if we told you that just in this month alone, despite our incredibly slim margins in Congress, we passed the biggest investment in our climate and renewable energy in our country's history — while also allowing Medicare to negotiate down the cost of prescription drugs?
What if we told you that if we're able to hold our House majority and expand our Senate majority by a few seats, we could deliver even more, like abolishing the filibuster, codifying Roe, raising the minimum wage, and banning assault weapons? And make more climate investments? And lift more children and families out of poverty?
What if we told you that Republicans have continued to vote against legislation that benefits the American people? All the while, they continue to take extraordinary amounts of money from corporate billionaires. Just last week, a right-wing billionaire and donor gave $1.6 billion to a conservative non-profit that will use that money to fight against voting rights, climate action, and abortion rights.
What if we told you that if Republicans take control, they could send our country backward, ending meaningful oversight and paving the way for another dangerous and abusive Trump administration? In fact, Kevin McCarthy is already threatening to strip Adam of his committee assignments if Republicans take the House, and Donald Trump is attacking Adam at every opportunity so that he can rile up his extreme MAGA base.
No one would have thought Democrats would get so much done in a 50-50 Senate in just one month, with no margin for error. But we did.
The work of government is often slow and cumbersome. But together, in August, we passed the Inflation Reduction Act (which attacked climate and lowered drug prices), the PACT Act (initially blocked by Republicans, which provides additional healthcare to veterans), the CHIPS and Science Act (which will invest hundreds of billions of dollars into the manufacturing of the future right here in the United States), and took action resulting in gas prices dropping for the entire month.
But this is just the beginning, and we’re clear-eyed about the stakes and the possibilities of the next two years. If we can protect and expand our Democratic majorities this November, more progressive policies will come to fruition and push our nation forward.
