Folks -- I’m proud to be from Selma, Alabama.
Growing up I witnessed firsthand the triumphs, hardships, and beauty of the voting rights movement. Now, as I’m fighting for AL-07 in Congress, it’s important for me to reflect on our history and how we can move forward together.

The Black Belt gets its name from the rich soil in which all of our roots are planted. From that black soil grew movements that would shape the very fabric of American history. Battles for equality were fought and won right here in Selma, but not without sacrifice.
Hundreds of men and women in this district gave their lives in the hope of a brighter future. I honor them every day as I fight for justice in Congress.
The story of my community has become deeply entwined with the history of our nation. Alabamians pushed forward for justice and equality under the law – now it’s our turn to take up the mantle.
But our path forward must be built on more than clinging to the past. Progress for AL-07 depends on striving for a brighter future – just like our ancestors did.
I’m in this fight to do more than secure my district’s legacy. Alabama is my home, and I’m ready to do anything it takes to make sure we’re able to thrive.
