The other day Chris asked you to share your stories of the out-of-control costs of prescription drugs, and we can't begin to thank you enough for what you've written.

Here are just a few of the many stories you shared with us, and if you haven’t had a chance to share yours click here:

“After serious medical problems I was put on Xarelto...but it's crazy expensive, so since I don't have an easy way to buy from Canada for approximately 1/4 the price in the US, I've resorted to taking it every other day now...”  — Cindy

 

“My story is already over ten years old — I lost my husband to complications of diabetes. He was thirty-four (34) I was twenty-seven (27). We often could not afford his medications, though we always bought insulin, sometimes going without food to do so. But he was exceedingly brittle (what a diabetic, whose glucose levels are hard to control, is called). We couldn't afford the other medications he needed. Blood pressure, eventually calcium binders and other kidney drugs. Beyond that — we couldn't afford the transplant that likely would have saved his life. My husband died over ten years ago because of our current medical system and I'm angry nothing has improved for anyone.” — Lachlan

 

“My teenage daughter's prescription drugs cut into our savings every month. Our estimated costs for out of pocket expenses just for prescriptions this year is about $10,000. That is several mortgage payments for us. That money is supposed to be for college savings. And we do not qualify for any kind of healthcare assistance anywhere. And if I use a discount card it won't count towards our deductible.” — Anthony

These are barely a fraction of the stories we've received so far, and we're still making our way through the list. But we want to thank you — all of you — for speaking out against the soaring cost of prescription drugs.

As these stories show, we need to take on the cost of prescription drugs now. Senator Coons is leading efforts to bring down the cost of prescription drugs, get generics to the market quicker, and unleash the bargaining power of millions of seniors. He's sponsoring measures like the SPIKE Act, RxCAP, and C-THRU Act to require drug companies to justify price spikes and publicly disclose rebates between drug companies and prescription benefit managers.

These are the concrete steps we can take right now to lower drug prices in a responsible way and ensure Delawareans can get the medications they need.
