Dear NRDC Activist,

The pristine wilderness and waters in and around Alaska's Bristol Bay teem with wildlife, including bears, eagles, wolves, and salmon that provide the economic and cultural lifeblood to the people of Bristol Bay. But the disastrous Pebble Mine project would threaten it all.

After decades of pressure from Bristol Bay Tribes, commercial fishermen, conservation organizations, and hundreds of thousands of NRDC supporters like you, the Army Corps of Engineers rejected the toxic gold and copper mega-mine — a very promising victory, but a temporary one.

In fact, the mining company and its backers have already appealed the Army Corps' decision and promised to fight tooth and nail to develop the mine. We can't let this happen — take action to stop this mine from being built.

Thankfully, President Biden's EPA is moving in the right direction with its recent Clean Water Act determination to stop the Pebble Mine once and for all and provide lasting protections for parts of Bristol Bay.

The EPA is inviting the public to weigh in on this important proposal through July 5. This is the last chance to tell the EPA to finish the job of stopping the Pebble Mine from being built and providing strong, permanent protections for Bristol Bay.

Tell the EPA you support stopping the dangerous Pebble Mine project for good — and urge the agency to FINALIZE STRONG, DURABLE PROTECTIONS for Bristol Bay.

If fully developed, the Pebble Mine would produce up to 10 billion tons of mining waste that would threaten the lives and livelihoods of the region's Yup'ik, Dena'ina, and Alutiiq people — and the ecosystems that support the bay's abundant fish and wildlife.

Bristol Bay salmon are the economic and cultural lifeline for the region. The watershed supplies more than half the world's sockeye salmon, and the fishery supports 15,000 jobs and generates $2.2 billion annually. It has sustained Alaska Native communities since time immemorial. Bristol Bay is also a world-renowned tourism destination.

Demand that the EPA put a permanent end to this toxic open-pit mega-mine and provide strong protections for Bristol Bay.

We've worked hard to stop the Pebble Mine — we can't give up now.

Let's be heard again and urge President Biden's EPA to shut down the Pebble Mine and defend Bristol Bay, its wildlife, and the Alaska Native communities who live there. The EPA must finalize strong, permanent protections for Bristol Bay by the end of this year.
