Jack, Gmail is on the verge of launching a pilot program allowing federal campaigns, party committees, and leadership PACs to send unsolicited spam without consequence. Our inboxes will be inundated with emails from politicians we did not sign up for and do not want.

The company’s decision to launch the pilot program was a direct response to pressure from Republican politicians who introduced highly partisan legislation, sent threatening letters to its CEO, and complained to the Federal Election Commission.

Republicans pressured Gmail to allow political spam because they have faced the consequences for their years of spamming and scamming potential supporters. They want their unsolicited emails back to primary inboxes whether or not people want to receive them.

We should have the power to decide which political campaigns we receive emails from on an opt-in basis, not Google.
