Devastating floods have hit 33 million people in Pakistan — tragically, over 1,000 people have lost their lives.
Historically strong monsoons have wreaked havoc in Pakistan since mid-June, destroying nearly half a million homes, and thousands of miles of roads and bridges. We're also anticipating a spike in hunger after the rains wiped out critical farmland and livestock.
IRC teams are on the ground now — we've conducted a needs assessment for communities affected by the flooding. Here's what we found:
87% of respondents reported that women and girls don't have safe bathrooms, while 84% don't have access to necessary hygiene supplies
71% of people don't have access to enough clean drinking water
63% reported that pregnant women and new mothers were extremely vulnerable
60% of respondents said their community is not safe
30 to 40% of respondents said they can't access critical healthcare

So far, we've reached almost 20,000 people with critical food, supplies and medical support. The IRC is calling for a quick mobilization of resources so that humanitarian groups can reach those most in need.
