From time to time, we hear from readers asking why Common Dreams has to send so many emails asking for money. We get it. It can be annoying. Frankly, fundraising isn’t much fun for us either.
But here’s why we ask for donations: because all the other options are worse.
We could put up a paywall and charge a fee, but that would block people who can’t afford to pay from accessing our website, defeating the whole point of reporting for the
99%.
We could sell advertising space to corporations who want to sell you stuff, but we’d rather shut down before we do that.
We could collect and sell personal data about you, our readers, to data brokers. But no. Hell no. A thousand times no.
