John,
Everything about the 2022 elections has changed over the past three months:
In June, the right-wing Supreme Court stripped people seeking abortions of their right to control their own bodies. In response, we have seen a massive increase in grassroots energy — including at the ballot box in special elections and primaries. Together, we have mobilized every day since the decision to elect WFP champions to Congress who will eliminate the filibuster, expand the Supreme Court, and secure abortion rights into federal law.
Then earlier this month, Democrats in Congress passed the Inflation Reduction Act, a major down payment towards a clean energy future. This bill, signed into law by President Biden, is the single most consequential climate change legislation in history. It invests billions in the development of green technology and jobs, and makes the wealthy and corporations foot the bill.
And just last week, President Biden announced his plan to tackle the student debt crisis. His executive action includes federal student loan forgiveness of up to $20,000 for some borrowers and adjustments to the income requirements for paying back federal loans. It will change lives for millions. It's also a credit to years of organizing. And we know the student debt cancelation movement will only gain more momentum.
With 70 days to go until Election Day, our fight to elect a working families majority to both houses of Congress that will pass a full working peoples' agenda is looking more winnable than ever.
But many of our candidates are facing tough opponents and millions in Super PAC spending in November. We always knew that would be the case — which is why we set ambitious online fundraising goals for each month at the beginning of the year.
With just a few more deadlines to go until Election Day, it is important that we meet each and every one of them. We have $6,680 left to hit our online fundraising goal for August 2022. Can you chip in before our end-of-month deadline?
