Dear friends,
We just won a major victory – the State Senate just approved Asm. Buffy Wicks's AB 2011, the most sweeping housing and land use reform of this legislative session.
That leaves one more bill, AB 2097 – which ends costly and polluting parking mandates near transit – as the last big piece of legislation we need to get through the State Senate, and the vote looks like it will be close.
With the legislative session ending on Wednesday, it's all hands on deck. Will you call your State Senator in support of AB 2097 and help us make sure we prioritize homes for people over parking for cars?

AB 2011 allows affordable housing to be built "by-right" in commercially-zoned districts, while including strong protections for the environment and labor standards such as prevailing wages and health insurance.
It's one of the most significant housing bills of this legislative session, and could unlock the potential for millions of affordable homes in California.
A recent analysis by Urban Footprint suggested AB 2011 has the potential to create as many as 2.4 million homes statewide.
AB 2011 could help pave the way for even more transformative housing legislation in the coming years. By bringing together YIMBYs and labor unions It is a potential example of how to build coalitions that can solve the housing shortage and affordability crisis – and legalize more homes.
Now we need to add on to that victory, and time is running out. Will you call your State Senator right now in support of AB 2097 and help end expensive, polluting parking mandates?
AB 2097 gives Californians more choices about whether they want to pay for parking, or have lower-cost housing in walkable, transit-accessible neighborhoods. Studies show parking mandates can add $40,000 or more per parking spot to new projects, driving up rent.
This year, AB 2097 not only made it out of the Senate Appropriations Committee – it's now co-authored by that committee's chair, Senator Anthony Portantino, who worked with bill author Assemblymember Laura Friedman to craft a version that stands a good chance of passing the State Senate.
We're closer than ever before to eliminating many of these expensive, polluting parking mandates that help make housing less affordable. That's why opponents are worried, and are mobilizing their own networks to contact State Senators in a last-minute bid to stop AB 2097 from passing.
That's where you come in.
Constituent calls make a huge impact in Sacramento, especially when a bill is ready for a floor vote. A final vote could happen anytime between now and Wednesday, and your voice could help play a decisive role in convincing your State Senator to support its passage.
So, if you're excited about ending California’s affordability crisis and bringing down the cost of homes, now is the time to raise your voice in support of AB 2097.
