John —
As we bring our 30th birthday fundraising challenge to an end, we want to take a moment to reflect on the past three decades.
Since 1992, we have been fighting to free innocent people from wrongful incarceration — people like Malcolm Alexander, Robert DuBoise, Eddie Lee Howard, and so many more who lost decades in prison for crimes they didn’t commit.
Thirty years adds up to 10,950 days and on each and every one of those days, we have also fought relentlessly for a more equitable and just legal system. In that time, we’ve helped free 239 people — that’s 239 innocent people whose lives were interrupted and whose loved ones have been traumatized by our legal system. Collectively, our freed clients had 3,690 years of freedom stolen from them for something they didn’t do.
While the missed weddings, funerals, children’s birthdays, and other big life milestones can’t be given back to them, because of this community’s support, because of this work, they are now free and able to create new, happy memories with their loved ones and reclaim some of what was stolen.
John, that’s why this work matters, and it’s far from done. There are still so many innocent people wrongly incarcerated right now, and with your support, we will continue to fight for them.
Our 30th birthday challenge ends at midnight tonight, so this is the last chance to make a donation that will help unlock a special $20,000 gift from our generous supporters John O'Farrell and Gloria Principe. Can we count on you to join the celebration and contribute right now? [[link removed]]
The Innocence Project and all the work that we do is made possible by people like you who see a problem and are steadfast on finding a solution. With your support, we know we’ll accomplish even more in the three decades ahead.
Here's to more birthdays and the continued fight for justice,
– The Innocence Project Team

The Innocence Project works to free the innocent, prevent wrongful convictions, and create fair, compassionate, and equitable systems of justice for everyone. Founded in 1992 by Barry C. Scheck and Peter J. Neufeld at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University, the organization is now an independent nonprofit. Our work is guided by science and grounded in antiracism.
