Indivisibles,

This weekend, the Washington Post published an article, “Democrats see the once unthinkable: A narrow path to keeping the House” that details a change in the outlook of political insiders towards what’s possible this November -- Democrats can maintain a trifecta. It’s not a given, and it will take a lot of hard work.

We knew this all along.

Our commitment to Give No Ground this November was grounded in the understanding that there is a path to victory if we commit ourselves to taking it. Republicans are already canceling ad buys in states like Arizona, conceding that they are running extreme candidates who can not win. At the same time, candidates are emerging, like Mandela Barnes in Wisconsin, who are growing the idea of what is possible in November.

This is not a mistake.
This is not messy polling.
This is a result of people like you standing up and clearly stating that we will not tolerate MAGA extremism anymore.

Roe falling will stand as a defining moment in our democracy for years to come -- but that will only be true if we seize the momentum.

MAGA Republicans are on the ropes. We can’t let them re-group. Achievements like the Inflation Reduction Act and student debt relief are just the tip of the iceberg of what is possible with a real trifecta. We will organize for the next 71 days to get there.

With that, here are your weekly to-dos:

 Your 4 weekly to-dos

  1. Click here to register to Give No Ground. Click “volunteer” in the top right corner. If you are a part of an Indivisible group, register as a group, if not you can register as an individual. This is where we will do the work for the next 71 days to hold the House and achieve a real majority in the Senate. To win, we must get the message out. Give No Ground is our home for opportunities to phonebank, textbank, canvass, postcard, and more so that when November comes around, we can say that we gave it our all for democracy. MAGA Republicans are mobilizing, but there are more of us than there are of them. Let’s make sure we show it!
  2. Click here to call your senator and tell them to pass the Marriage Equality Act. Following the Dobbs decision, same-sex marriage is now on the chopping block for the Republican Supreme Court. Recently, Senate Republicans blocked passage of the Right to Contraception Act reminding us that our rights are not only in jeopardy, but Republicans will actively refuse to enshrine them into law without pressure. We cannot allow the MAGA-led rollback of our rights to continue -- not while our senators have the power to intervene. Voting against the Marriage Equality Act would be wildly unpopular and put these politicians’ careers in jeopardy (which is why we saw some House Republicans vote with Democrats on it). Let’s make sure Republican senators know it!
  3. Click here to call your senator and demand they pass the Markey Court Expansion Bill. Even as Democrats work to expand our rights, the threat of them being overturned by the Supreme Court looms large. We must expand the court after Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell conspired to pack it for generations to come. The only way to re-legitimize the court is to expand it. Contact your senator and, when you’re done, click here to contact your representative and tell them to pass Rep. Mondaire Jones' House version of the bill.
  4. Do you live in a rural area? Click here to join our National Rural Program. We have special election resources and calls specifically for our rural Indivisibles where you can learn more about strategies and issues specific to Indivisibles living in rural areas. If you want an idea of what that looks like, click here to check out our agenda and notes from previous meetings.

The work of defending democracy continues with your help. In order to keep Give No Ground running and to fund all of the work we do here at Indivisible, click here to donate today.

 Student Debt

Biden forgives student debt

Last week, President Biden announced federal student debt relief of up to $20,000 for Pell Grant recipients and up to $10,000 for anyone else with student debt making less than $125,000 per year.

This is an incredible achievement.

Up to 43 million borrowers will see relief under these terms. That means someone you know, someone you love, is poised to see some amount of relief from this incredible policy at a time when every household is feeling the squeeze of rising costs on household budgets.

Click here to read an explainer from Biden and the Department of Education.

Share this information widely. Let’s make sure our children, our spouses, and our families know that debt relief is on the way. If people don’t know about this, they can’t take advantage of the benefits. Let’s make sure to take care of our communities.

 National Events

She has delivered her findings in front of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Netroots Nation 2022, and the Ford Foundation among others. Join us for this installment of the once a month gathering of rural activists where we address rural-specific information and advocacy. The call will specifically focus on rural strategy, but all Indivisibles are welcome.

Click here to register for our Fight Election Disinformation -- Truth Brigade Action Virtual Summit: Featuring Dan Pfeiffer on Wednesday, September 14th at 6:30 ET/3:30 PT. Disinformation poisons minds and prevents our society from moving forward to protect the people and the planet. Lies are spread to obtain unearned power -- it's as simple as that. Lies around voting and elections provide the path to that unearned power. Join us September 14th to learn which states, people, and campaigns are most vulnerable, and how we can and must disrupt voting-related disinformation. Leave this event inspired, clear-headed and focused on taking meaningful action. We’ll be joined by Dan Pfeiffer, co-host of Pod Save America and author of Battling the Big Lie: How Fox, Facebook and the MAGA Media are Destroying America
