A new study from the Brennan Center for Justice confirms what we’ve been talking about: Republicans’ efforts to suppress a state’s voting rights are directly tied to the state’s racial diversity.
"It is clear that the laws that were introduced to restrict access to voting in 2021, were targeted at methods of voting that were used increasingly by voters of color in 2020," said Sean Morales-Doyle, director of the Brennan Center's Voting Rights division.
"They were, in some cases very clearly a response to voters of color, exercising political power in ways that they hadn't before."
That’s right, John: Republicans didn’t like voters of color using their voices, and thus came a wave of voter suppression bills.
It’s alarming, racist, and anti-democracy. Plain and simple.
