| Great ways to connect this week, as we finish out the summer and look towards fall. We've got opportunities to work toward creating safer schools and to speak out as an advocate to #ProtectTransHealth. Also, our #STTALive episode this week is one you absolutely won't want to miss, as we have a conversation about anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric on social media. A heads up that we won't have an issue of PFLAG Connects next Monday, as it's Labor Day and the PFLAG National Staff will be off. We will send an email with information about our #STTALive episode, so keep an eye out for that! |

| | Advocacy Tell the Biden Administration: #ProtectTransHealth The Biden Administration has finally released a new proposed rule that takes major steps forward to protect trans people from health care discrimination! Trans people - and especially trans youth - have faced vicious recent attacks. Everyone should have access to safe and affirming medical care - and no one should have to face discrimination at the doctor’s office. During the next 60 days of public comment, you can make a difference. Make your voice heard. Say NO to discrimination and YES to equal health care! Here’s what to do: Visit pflagnation.al/ProtectTransHealth and leave a comment on why you support the new rule. Share your comment on social media with #ProtectTransHealth, and then encourage others to do the same! The new rule relates to Section 1557, which is the part of the Affordable Care Act that prohibits discrimination in health care. The law itself already exists - and discrimination is already illegal - but the proposed rules help strengthen our protections and enforce the law. Now, you can leave a comment which supports the new rule. At the link you’ll find tips and ideas on sharing your story, as well as opportunities to your comment on social media with #ProtectTransHealth. Visit pflagnation.al/ProtectTransHealth to leave your comments today! |

| | Something to Talk About...Live! Staying Safe Online While Facing Anti-LGBTQ+ Rhetoric A small -- but very aggressive -- minority has been overwhelming online spaces with anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric and even threats of violence. A recent report connects how anti-LGBTQ+ legislative and policy wins in local and state governments have helped amplify hate on social media platforms. Worse, ineffective responses to this issue have only emboldened and empowered some people to do more damage. Join us this Thursday, September 1 at 4:30 PM ET / 1:30 PM PT for Something to Talk About Live! where we will be discussing "After 'Don't Say Gay' bill passed, anti-LGBTQ 'grooming' rhetoric surged 400% online” by Jo Yurcaba, which appeared on NBC News. We're excited to welcome Ari Drennen, LGBTQ+ Program Manager, Media Matters for America and Greg Rokisky, Social Media and Digital Content Manager, PFLAG National to the conversation! Join us on Thursday, September 1st at 4:30 PM ET / 1:30 PM PT on Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, or Twitter. To learn more--and to check out our discussion questions in advance--visit pflagnation.al/STTALive-090122. |
