Dear BJA Stakeholder,
It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Michelle Garcia as the new Deputy Director for the Programs Office here at the Bureau of Justice Assistance. I have had the opportunity to work with Ms. Garcia while serving as Director of the State Administering Agency in Ohio. I know her to be a very fair, knowledgeable, and collaborative colleague.
Ms. Garcia comes to us from the District of Columbia Office of Victim Services and Justice Grants (OVSJG). There she's served as Director since 2015, administering the District?s federal grant programs that serve crime victims, prevent crime, and improve the administration of justice for victims and individuals who have committed crimes. Additionally, she has extensive experience developing and implementing programs that include evidence-based practices that respond to, intervene in, and prevent violence.
Prior to joining OVSJG, Ms. Garcia was Director of the Stalking Resource Center at the National Center for Victims of Crime for over nine years. Many of our colleagues and providers will also remember Ms. Garcia from her time as a Program Specialist with the U.S. Department of Justice?s Office for Victims of Crime. ?
We are fortunate to have her join us in this key leadership role.
Karhlton F. Moore, Director
