** Board Position Available: Recruitment Committee Chairman

The New York Young Republican Club is looking for a new Recruitment Committee Chairman.

The Recruitment Committee is charged with identifying and soliciting potential new members.

The Chairman of this standing committee serves as a voting member of the Club’s Board of Governors and reports directly to the President. We are looking for someone with a passion for both conservative politics and a background in sales, networking, or community organizing.

Applicants must be a current member of the Club in good standing and be willing to commit to at least one board meeting and two Club events per month. This position is intended to help spearhead our efforts to grow the Club’s membership through the metropolitan area by meeting potential new members at our own events or other organization’s events and encouraging them to formally join the Club.

The Recruitment Chairman is responsible for all contact and follow-up with prospective members and is tasked with finding creative ways to drive membership growth.

Mike DeBenedetto

Originally from North Jersey, Mike was first drawn to the legal profession in middle school after being inspired by the great work of the late Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia and service Associate Justice Clarence Thomas. Mike had a passion for history and writing, thus law became a natural career path. He attended St. John’s University and graduated with a B.A. in English. He began his law school studies at the St. John’s University School of Law in his senior year of college. In law school, he was President of the Catholic Law Students Association and Vice-President of the Federalist Society - St. John’s Chapter. He was also published in the St. John’s Law Review Online Commentary for his piece reflecting on the legacy and judicial philosophy of Robert Bork.

In practice, Mike litigates tort-based actions on behalf of large retailers in federal and state court. Outside of practice, Mike has operated a legal blog, Publius in Exile, named after his favorite founding father, New York’s own Alexander Hamilton, who authored under “Publius” in the Federalist Papers. His blog is in its 5th year, and in it, Mike covers interesting Constitutional and historical issues. He has also given talks on topics that focus on law and religion. Mike is a member of the Law Committee and the History Committee of the NYYRC and is grateful for the work that these committees have accomplished.

Mike enjoys practicing his faith, spending time with family, and playing chess with his fiancée. He is an avid reader of non-fiction U.S. history books. He enjoys working out and cheering on the Mets, Jets, Knicks and Red Storm.

The New York Young Republican Club is the oldest and largest Young Republican club in the United States, incorporated in 1911 with predecessor organizations dating to 1856.

On Saturday, December 10, we will hold our 110th Annual Gala, just as we have done through every major world event, including both World Wars and COVID-19, since our foundation. We are excited to welcome back both members and guests for a black-tie evening featuring an open bar, passed hors d’ouvres, and a seated meal as we hear from high-profile national speakers, mingle with special guests, and discuss opportunities for the advancement of our mission.

The New York Young Republican Club continues to promote the future political leaders of America by advocating for their involvement in local government, as elected officials, and within major political organizations.
