Today’s Action: Tell NYC Mayor Adams to ban NYC carriage rides!
A horse used for carriage rides in New York City collapsed earlier this month from exhaustion and illness, lying in the city streets for an hour while his driver reportedly whipped him and screamed at him to get back up. According to the city’s Department of Health records, at least seven carriage horses have died in service.
New York City carriage rides have continued to operate throughout record heat waves, pulled by already overworked and abused horses, forced to trot on blistering pavement all day long, dodging traffic while carting tourists throughout the crowded city. From permanent leg damage from overuse to respiratory issues from breathing exhaust fumes, forcing a horse to live like this is downright cruel.

At least 30 accidents involving carriage horses in New York have been recorded since 2013 alone, and those are just the ones that get reported. These horses were never meant to work in such hectic, dangerous, urban settings and deserve to live lives free from abuse.
