BOB LINN Winning Our Battles Reportedly, some teachers shed tears of anguish following the runoff victory of OCPAC-endorsed Ryan Walters for State Superintendent of Instruction. The press published the deeply troubled and apocalyptic comments from the Tulsa Classroom Teachers Association (TCTA) President, Shawna Mott-Wright. She spoke of the fear a number of Tulsa teachers expressed at the runoff defeat of Shawnee Superintendent, April Grace. TCTA President, Shawna Mott-Wright, was quoted as saying: There were lots of tears last night … They are all pretty much saying verbatim, "If Walters and Stitt win, I’m done with education. I’m not gonna teach anymore, and I might even quit on the spot.” The TCTA President did more than pass on the sentiments of a few teachers. She was quoted as saying to Fox 43 last Wednesday: We cannot have someone at the helm who is basically going to murder public education. Shawna Mott-Wright says Tulsa Public Schools does not and never has taught Critical Race Theory, and she doesn’t know of any district in the state that does. But she says the ambiguity over what exactly HB 1775 prohibits has teachers working in fear. See the bill’s prohibitions here to see that the bill is not ambiguous. Nevertheless, I presume that it was with a straight face that the Tulsa Classroom Teachers Association (TCTA) President stated: I get a lot of messages daily from teachers who are terrified to teach,” she said. “I don’t want us to have a Holocaust because children aren’t learning about it. I don’t want another Tulsa Race Massacre because some people’s feelings are hurt. This comment indicates that either she has not read HB 1775 or, like any good soldier for the cause of Critical Theory, she is employing the Marxist techniques of obfuscation and misrepresentation. Last week, I noted that the far-left news media accused HB 1775 of being a tool of censorship. One media outlet on the left said: It will no doubt lead to teachers engaging in self-censorship out of fear of state retaliation, and will silence important classroom conversations that help all students meaningfully engage with their community. HB 1775 severely restricts public school teachers and students from learning and talking about race and gender in the classroom. Knowing the simplicity and common sense of HB 1775, the above comments are outrageous and contemptible. After reading these comments in last week’s OCPAC newsletter, former Legislator, Tulsa businessman, and engineer, Chuck Strohm, sent a comment regarding the cries of censorship: They’ve been censoring and punishing Christians for years – when Reagan was in 2nd grade I believe (10 years ago) at Jenks, a supposed Christian teacher sent a note home a little before Christmas vacation saying that nothing that mentions Christmas or God will not be allowed in her classroom. Of course, she hid behind the false façade of ‘district policy’ but at the end of the day, most Christian teachers have been beaten into cowering regarding their beliefs. It’s time the ungodly understand that the classroom is not their experimentation lab on the captive young minds in their classroom! Post-election newspeak from these Tulsa teachers continue the false narrative of Woke ideology applied to the irreproachable Christian virtues of the eight “THOU SHALT NOTs” of HB 1775. SEE LINK HERE As I have reflected on the post-election wokish squealing, I was reminded of the way writer and theater critique, Michael Walsh, described the call of Karl Marx for the abolition of religion. After quoting two paragraphs of Marx’s 1844 anti-religion critique, Walsh wrote These are the demented ravings of a dangerous idiot. With this, Walsh says what my Indiana University philosophy professor would never say about Karl Marx. Yet, given the destruction in the wake of Marxian ideas, it should have been said. And, it is what should be said about the entire ideological curriculum of Critical Theory. Instead, an insane, confused, and dangerous morass of unsupportable drivel cloaked in pseudo-academic garb is allowed to take hostage our universities, our kindergartens, and everything in between with a Machiavellian army trained to destroy a nation with words. Walsh provides commentary fitting for Oklahoma's post-election Orwellian chatter when he notes that “the left’s fondness for complexity over simplicity betrays its affection for obfuscation and misdirection.” Order your own copy of Walsh’s refreshingly direct, pointed, and entertaining book The Devil’s Pleasure Palace here. When Dr. James Lindsay, leading expert on Critical Theory, published Race Marxism, he noted this obfuscation. For the benefit of many who find Critical Theory difficult, he said: Critical Race Theory, like many Marxian theories, resists being clearly and concisely defined. Its authors and theorists don’t agree with one another about what Critical Race Theory is. This too is intentional; its smoke and mirrors. Very tedious smoke and mirrors. It is vital to our children's future that we understand this bizarre and nearly incomprehensible woke ideological enemy which has infested our institutions. In the August 1st edition of the OCPAC newsletter, I wrote about the Tyranny of the Wokerati. Wokerati is a term I borrowed from Roger Kimball, publisher of the New Criterion. In that article, I referred to one of the most important books written thus far in the 21st century, Carl Trueman’s The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self. Trueman seeks to explain how statements like, “I am a woman trapped in a man’s body” have come to be regarded not just as coherent and meaningful, but as foundational to the dignity of mankind. His research sought an answer to one bewildering question: "How has society so completely unraveled and been turned on its head at such a maniacal pace?" WHY THE QUESTION IN CARL TRUEMAN'S MIND IS SO IMPORTANT TO US It is an important question, because the teachers union (NEA/OEA) just spent $2 million in a failed effort to destroy Ryan Walters, a pro-parental authority education candidate. The NEA is desperate to keep Ryan out of public education simply because he has abstained from the Woke Kool-Aid cocktail and the gender and race theories that come with it. Ryan Walters has publicly and forcefully rejected the stated woke positions of the NEA and their Oklahoma extension, the OEA, which are found in the NEA website. The NEA (National Teachers Association) explains their "Queer" training model here where they state: This [NEA/OEA] module is important and timely as trans youth come under attack in state legislatures across the country. This new module explains the terminology related to “Queer” identities and shares ways to support students who are transitioning, highlighting specific challenges and needs of BIPOC students, and more. • Explain how transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming (also called GNC) students may choose to transition and make their identity public • Explain the specific challenges and needs of BIPOC students who are transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming • Identify effective action steps to create safer learning spaces for transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming students Developed by: NEA Center for Social Justice Last Updated: 03/18/2022 OKLAHOMA REJECTS THE NEA's $2 MILLION SMEAR CAMPAIGN The good news is that Oklahoma voters had the wisdom to reject the $2 million of NEA rhetoric and give Ryan Walters a runoff victory. Another bit of good news from last week came in a challenge to our state board of education. The state board of education was asked to reconsider the penalties for Tulsa Public Schools and Mustang Public Schools. Several representatives from each district were there to make statements under public comment. Several superintendents from other districts were there watching. Board member Carlisha Bradley from Tulsa made the motion to reconsider Mustang and Joy Hofmeister provided the second to her motion. It was voted down without discussion. The exact same thing happened for Tulsa Public schools. Oklahoma's State Board of Education sent a clear message. Hopefully superintendents around the state are taking note. ________________ SEEKING LONG-TERM SOLUTIONS IN OKLAHOMA'S EDUCATION In a move to see the public better represented in our school board elections, School Boards 4 Kids met last week to put together a coalition to move those elections to the June primary date. This date change would be a significant change for the better. If you want to help, contact Reed Downey through the website here. This Wednesday, we will welcome two guest speakers who will speak about their work to brighten the future for Oklahoma. I will hope to see you there. We are in desperate need of returning our nation and our state to Biblical foundations. Thank you for your activism. _________ I'll see you this Wednesday's luncheon! 11:00 AM Doors open 11:30 AM Lunch NOON to 1:15 PM Meeting Central Oklahoma Home Builders Association 420 East Britton Road, OKC, OK 73114 God bless!
