State legislatures play a HUGELY important role in either upholding fair elections… or dismantling them. That’s why the NDRC announced plans to target a whopping 25 state legislative chambers in 2022 to help make sure as many as possible are led by fair-minded Democrats!

Our goals for our 25 targets are to help:
- FLIP chambers controlled by Republicans (Dems are just three seats away in Michigan!),
- DEFEND vulnerable Democratic majorities,
- PREVENT devastating Republican supermajorities, and
- BUILD long-term power.
Winning races at the state legislative level will make a BIG difference at all levels. Don’t forget that in many states, legislatures control the redistricting process. AND, if Republicans convince SCOTUS to give their blessing to the fringe independent state legislature theory, legislatures could gain near-total control over all aspects of federal elections!
