We did it: Congress will fund research on gun violence for the first time in *over 20 years*!
Despite nearly 40,000 people dying from gun violence each year, federal agencies like the CDC and NIH have not been allowed to study the issue since before we were born. And if we’re going to find the most effective policies to end this epidemic, then #WeNeedToKnow the facts.
So in July, our student lobbyists and grassroots activists took to the Hill (and social media) to meet with legislators from around the country. Supporters like you helped spread the message to legislators by calling, emailing, and tweeting. And now, we know that our collective hard work paid off.
This is one of the biggest policy wins for our movement in years. And we need to keep the momentum going so the NRA sees we’re just getting started.
Since we began our lobbying work last year, we’ve been working to reshape the political landscape. From challenging NRA-funded politicians to introducing a Peace Plan that would save lives, we know first-hand how hard it is to get anything done in a system run by corrupt politicians and paid for by NRA blood money... Especially when you’re just a bunch of high school and college students asking to meet with members of Congress.
