John,
The Trump administration is on the cusp of instituting a proposed rule that would strip away protections against discrimination from virtually all U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) grant programs. And we will not stand by as it tries to discriminate.
If implemented, this rule would allow for blatant discrimination against LGBTQ people, women, religious minorities and nonreligious people. These are our family members, friends, and neighbors who could be turned away from services ranging from childcare, substance abuse treatment, after school programming, health care and more—services that all of our families need to survive and thrive.
HHS administers over $500 billion in taxpayer dollars each year to protect and preserve the health and human dignity of the millions of people its programs serve, including the most vulnerable people in our communities. Agencies that take government money to serve the public shouldn’t get to pick and choose whom they will serve. These services must be available to any eligible person in need.
We all pay the price when it comes to government-sanctioned discrimination. Will you stand with us and let the administration know you reject their attempts to discriminate?
Share your comments and help us create a wave of opposition and reject this dangerous proposal.
Together, we can fight this attack on our communities.
In Solidarity,
Mara Keisling Executive Director National Center for Transgender Equality
