While humans physically show signs of stress through gray hair or dark circles under our eyes, the bumblebee’s wing shape becomes asymmetrical during development.
John,
Here’s one thing you might not expect we’d have in common with bees: We’re both stressed about climate change.
Over the past 100 years, researchers have studied the size and shape of bumblebees. With a century’s worth of data, scientists have learned how various weather conditions correlate to stress on the bees.
While humans physically show signs of stress through gray hair or dark circles under our eyes, the bumblebee’s wing shape becomes asymmetrical during development. And a recently published study has found that the increased frequency of asymmetrical wings is due to the hotter, wetter climate conditions.
This is a concerning sign of what’s to come if climate change continues to go unchecked. Bees are an indispensable species. They pollinate crops that feed 90% of the world. If climate change continues to cause physical stress on the bees, agriculture as we know it will collapse.
We must take this message for what it is: a warning sign that climate change is reaching a tipping point. and work to push real action on climate change forward. SEEC members have already succeeded in bringing substantive action on climate change and are fighting to protect hundreds of endangered animals from the threat of extinction. Will you show your support for their work by making a contribution today?

Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 117th Congress while we undo the damage of the Trump Administration.
