Team,
Today, I wanted to share a story from one of our mid-Michigan summer festivals.
As I was walking in the Dewitt Ox Roast Parade a few weeks ago, a boy no older than ten came up to me with something very important to say:
“You’re Elissa Slotkin! I see you on YouTube all the time!”
He was talking about my ads (which you can see here) that run both on television and online on websites like YouTube.
Digital advertising has skyrocketed in the past few years for campaigns. It is a great way to reach people – particularly young people – who are watching less traditional television.
And I must say, they’re quite a bit cheaper than television ads, whose prices are set by TV stations – something that has been a bit of an issue lately as stations in the Lansing area have raised their prices. Nothing we can’t handle, but a bump in the road for sure.
Five years ago, I would have laughed if you had told me kids would be seeing my face on YouTube. Now, I find myself popping up between cartoons and video clips on their phones and iPads. It’s definitely a part of being in elected office that I’ll never fully get used to.
At the end of the day, it’s because of people who chip in to my campaign that I’m able to purchase these ads. So if you’ve contributed already, thank you – and if you haven’t or would like to again, you might just be the reason I pop up on the next 10 year old’s YouTube video.
Elissa
