Team,
Anyone who is paying attention understands the real threats of the looming climate catastrophe, especially for our coastal communities in Virginia. But our Governor seems to care more about toeing the extremist GOP line in all matters, including in denial of climate change.
So much so that on his inauguration day, Glenn Youngkin issued a notice of his intentions to withdraw Virginia from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), a multi-state partnership that reduces harmful carbon emissions and directs the payments from industries into our flood protection and energy efficiency programs.
Youngkin is trying to take our efforts to address climate change back decades. He has tried to do it through legislation and through the budget. Now, he is going to try to deregulate our protections. At every turn, I and my Senate Democratic colleagues have been able to block his efforts. And we will continue to fight hard.
But we have just a one-seat majority – my seat. We cannot lose any ground, we must expand the Democratic majority, take back the House, and protect Virginians from floods and other climate disasters. Please make a contribution to my pro-environment campaign and help me stand against Glenn’s anti-climate agenda.
PITCH IN NOW
If there’s one thing I’m certain of, it’s that Youngkin’s extremist values do not align with Virginian voters. In fact, he’s not even focused on the good governance that Virginians expect from our leadership. Every week, we learn that he’s campaigning for some of the most far-right, anti-abortion, anti-climate, election-denying candidates across the country.
Virginia has the opportunity to lead the region on critical climate-action policies. We have the power to address the concerns of the climate catastrophes that continue to face us every day, to ensure that we protect precious natural resources for future generations.
Please help me do just that – keep me on the frontlines to fight against Youngkin’s anti-climate agenda.
There’s no time to waste,
Senator Ghazala Hashmi
