John, I’m sorry to email on a Sunday.

But I woke up this morning, read the Sunday paper, finished my Diet Mountain Dew, got ready for church — and now I’m reflecting on how quickly the summer has gone, and how consequential these past few months have been.

We witnessed the Supreme Court overturn a woman’s constitutional right to make her own medical decisions. They also agreed to hear arguments for Moore v. Harper — which could reinstate the extreme, illegally gerrymandered congressional maps that North Carolina's highest court threw out. Moreover, it could lead state legislatures to decide to choose their own slates of electors to determine our next president. This would be disastrous in states with GOP-controlled legislatures like ours.

Abortion rights, voting rights, our democracy — it’s all never been more fragile than it is right now.

We’re just days away from our critical end-of-month deadline, the last of these summer months heading into election season. I’ve never liked asking you for your money, but I also have never been more motivated to ensure we elect North Carolina Democrats and stop a Republican supermajority in the state legislature.
